Fish Identification Quiz

Welcome to the Flagler Sportfishing Club website. We are an extremely active club with around 200 family's (over 400 members). We meet once a month at the Elks Club in Palm Coast and have a lot of events and tournaments throughout the year. Some of our tournaments pay cash awards of up to 4,000.00 dollars while others are smaller but just as much fun! Check out the 2012 schedule by clicking the link on the upper right.

Our club meetings focus on educating our members on local fishing techniques as well as staying informed on local laws and regulations. Most meetings are attended by a speaker who is a professional fishing guide in our local area. If you are considering joining our club, stop by on the first Wednesday of any month (except December). See more info under the membership link above.

Our success is a direct result of our member participation, as well as our great sponsors. We encourage each and every member to come to our meetings, and participate in our tournaments. And don't forget, when your shopping in the area to visit our sponsors and thank them for their support..

  • 17th Annual Spring Classic Fishing Tournament Results:

  • Results of 16 Mar 2013 Free Club Count the Spots tournament

The day started cool but warmed nicely to become a chamber of commerce type of day.  The anglers did well with some very nice Red’s weighed in.  Mike LaMonica took 1st place with 6 spots, John Fanelli in second with 4 spots, Chuck Dykes finished 3rd with 4 spots( only due to weighing after John),  Jason Phillips was 4th with 2 spots, and our own Capt. Jim Britton with 2 spots to round out the field.  Jason Phillips took home another win with the largest redfish of the day weighing in from the blue corner at 6.12 lbs.  I think the food selection went over well, we grilled/consumed 90 Bratwurst, 2 packs of hotdogs, 8 bags of coleslaw and two bags of Polish sauerkraut.  All in all a nice day with a turnout of @ 45 members at the weigh in.

Flagler Slam (one fish of each category, total weight)

    Billy Page - 8.6lb

Saturday, September 9, 2012 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Hurricane Patty’s the Flagler Sportfishing Club held the weigh in for their 24th Annual Inshore Classic Tournament.

With a field of 85 anglers and over fifty fish being weighted in, the weight-in station was a busy place.  Some of the highlights were: Cody Moore came in with a 7 pound 1 ounce Trout for 1st place in that division.  Stephen Cox took 1st place Redifsh with a 6 pound 7 ounce fish and John Dodd weighted in a Flounder at 3 pounds 4 ounces for 1st place in that species.

Billy Page weighted in one Flounder,  one Redfish and one Trout for a total weight of 8 pounds 6 ounces to win the Flagler Slam.

Scott Cornelius walked away with $320.00 for the biggest fish in the Big Fish Calcutta.

The beneficiary of the tournament, the Kaphan family also attended the weight-in.  Their son, Tristan Kaphan was born on June 14, 2012 with a heart condition and will need three operations before he is four years old.  On a lighter side, Captain Mike Vickers did get Emily and James Kaphan to hold some of the fish that were caught during the tournament.  Emily really did not want to because the trout was still alive and wiggling.

  • South Atlantic Red Snapper Season set to Re-Open

A fishery that has been closed for three years now due to over-fishing is set to re-open in September of 2012. The South Atlantic Marine Fisheries Council (SAMFC) met in June of 2012 and discussed the options of a short season for Red Snapper in the South Atlantic. The SAMFC recommended to NOAA Fisheries that a limited harvest period be permitted on the east coast. The season will consist of two, three day weekends for recreational anglers, along with a small commercial harvest. CCA supported the opening if doing so would not delay the rebuilding plan or do harm to the stock. CCA told the Council that this fishery is a good candidate formanagement as primarily a recreational fishery in the South Atlantic, and that the greatest overall benefit to the country would be achieved by allocating most, if not all, of the catch to the recreational fishery. • Kids Tournament was a great success!

Saturday July 28th saw fourteen lucky kids and a adult treated to a morning of fishing on the boats of the Flagler Sportfishing Club. The kids were the winners of a drawing held at The Kids Fishing Clinic on July 14th . The captains made sure that all the kids caught some fish (mostly pin fish) ,but some caught keeper trout and flounder. Big Smiles were evident on the kids as they returned to Bings Landing County Park for a hamburger picnic.
